A donation is an act of kindness. It is encouraged by everyone. Yet a very few people do it. What often discourages people from donating is a potential embarrassment they think they will face if they donate in small amounts. But nothing is embarrassing about it. You are donating to help someone and that is more than what most people do. Every little bit counts. In fact, it’s better to donate a small amount every month than to donate a big one maybe once a year and turn that month’s budget into a big mess. To explain this better, here are 4 reasons to donate to a charity every month:

1. You make an impact

When someone donates a big amount once every 6 months or a year, they have to move around some of their expenses of that month to adjust a donation in their budget. This means it is a task for them every time they want to donate. Many a time, they might even be discouraged because they cannot afford it. On the other hand, if you donate a small amount every month, you do not have to make any major adjustments to your monthly budget. Since it is a small amount, it will hardly impact your budget. Over time, when you continue donating, you will donate a large enough amount to make an impact.

2. You support many causes

A donation to a charity does not mean that you donate to only one charity. There are many ailments in society and so there are many NGOs for different causes. It’s perfectly normal for you to care about more than one cause. When you donate, every month you can pick a different cause you care about and make an impact. This is also an opportunity for you to educate yourself on some new causes that you don’t know much about and make an impact there as well to build a better society.

3. You inspire others to donate

Donation is a severely contagious habit and for good reasons. When you donate every month, more people get to know you donate to different charities and causes. You can also include other people in your decision-making as to which charity you should donate to that month. When people will see you donate, they will take a step towards donation too. The more people you inspire and encourage to donate, the bigger will be the impact you will be making.

4. You get tax benefits

Even the Government of India encourages the citizens of the country to donate. Under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, you get exemption on the taxable income for the amount you donate. Each charity has a different percentage of the tax exemption they provide. You will have to read at the charity website or call them up to know what the percentage of tax exemption on a donation there is and the minimum donation amount to avail the exemption.

A donation is an act that makes an impact, regardless of how small the amount you donate. The more regularly you do it, the bigger will be the impact of your donation.
